Dr. Ganeles Provides Dental Implants for Patient on “Extreme Makeover” Show

When he learned that patients on the “Extreme Makeover” show were getting by with partial dentures, Dr. Ganeles flew to California to provide dental implants.

In 2002 when the television show “Extreme Makeover” first hit the television airways, my assistant told me that they were doing all sorts of cosmetic procedures, vision correction, liposuction and transforming patients’ bodies.  Then she said, “You can’t believe it, but they are putting partial dentures in these patients instead of implants.”  I did not believe it at first but then I watched the show and confirmed that it was true—they were not using dental implants.

I sent written documentation and photos of completed cases to the producers and they tried to find someone in southern California to perform the immediate lower implant procedure.  When they could not find anyone to provide this service, they asked me to get a license in California because they were going to put me on the show.

They sent me a case of a woman in her late 40s who had been without teeth in the upper jaw for over 25 years, and they told me this was my patient.  I flew out with my team to Los Angeles and we met the patient and we did her procedure on camera.  Everything really went like clockwork.  She was a great patient, she was very dramatic, and she was extraordinarily appreciative of the teeth.

She also went through various plastic surgical procedures and LASIK eye surgery. The one thing that still is good after almost 15 years is her teeth which still look great.  The plastic surgery has drooped, her vision has faded a little bit, but the teeth are still just fine.

There are many patients who wish to improve their appearance and enhance the quality of the lives.  Dental implants are a long-lasting solution that benefit the patient every day.
