Dr. Jeffrey Ganeles, periodontist in Boca Raton, Florida, explains that the best dental treatment starts with a comprehensive oral examination.
We are very focused and insistent on taking a look at each patient’s entire mouth. Even if you come in with a specific individual problem, we are going to be very thorough and do an examination of the entire mouth. We need to know exactly what is going on so that we can make specific treatment recommendations in the context of your total problems.
We may focus in on one area that may be bothering you or that is most important at that time, and we want to be as efficient as possible. We do not want you to spend time or money on treating teeth when that treatment is ultimately not going to be successful. We want to provide you with the best possible treatment in the shortest possible time, so at the end of the process you are going to get the best result.
As part of our comprehensive examination process, it is also really important that we check for oral cancer. You may be coming in to have us look at a front tooth, but we are also going to look in the back of your mouth to make sure you do not have a problem that would supersede your original concern. In addition, we are going to make sure that your molars are in good condition, even if you come in with a front tooth problem, because everything is connected. We also know that some people have ongoing periodontal disease. If there is an infection anywhere in the mouth, then we want to deal with that issue because an infection will reduce the success rate of implants.
It is also true that very often bite problems can also be associated with periodontal disease, or gum problems or implant problems and we need to take a look at the whole mouth in order to make sure that your bite will not compromise dental implant treatment.
While we are very committed to solving the problem that prompted your visit to our office, we also know that taking a comprehensive approach will help ensure treatment success and also help prevent future dental problems.
